That's why I can't get it then 'cause... yaourt's screwed.

Is there anything in pacman (regular repos)? yaourt was.

No Yaourt never was in the standard repos. You had to add the repository by adding a line to /etc/pacman.conf

Oh that's right, sorry, that was a while back.

I guess I'd have to find the packer package then in AUR online, and install it manually. Gonna give it a shot from here:

Edit: Or not.

I really really need yaourt to work. That's the reality.

Yes I have lost track of the exact problem you have with it because you have jumped a bit between several problems. My sudo suggestion I believe you rejected so I am not sure I have any other advice for you.
I still believe that getting your sudo to work will get yaourt to work. But I do not have an overview over your installation so I cannot be sure of course.

A tip for you, from here because I know you do it, and it's exactly why I don't do it:
You should use pacman for anything not related to the AUR, because yaourt may not fully take care of necessarily steps such as replaces.

So if I tell you that I don't do it then you will do it right?
I don't even use yaourt anymore I use packer it is 29 times faster and it also updates the AUR packages. For removing stuff I always use Pacman.

Ah, okay.

Wish I could get to packer... :(

Is there any clue what's up with this on updates?

Been getting it for several days now. I've had to put it as an ignore package in /etc/pacman.conf, but try it every day anyway. Keep getting the same thing.

Thanks.

Edit: Searched the Arch forums, and found the answer. And, she's all fixed up on it:

Yup it is on the arch front page:
Due to a bug in pacman file conflict resolution, the upgrade to the package formerly named zope-interface requires manual steps.
pacman -Rdd zope-interface
pacman -S python2-zope-interface --asdeps
Manjaro 64bit on the main box -Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz and nVidia Corporation GT200b [GeForce GTX 275] (rev a1. + Centos on the server - Arch on the laptop.

Damit: Arch just works!

Postby viking60 » 12 Aug 2011, 18:37

Long time since I had something to say here and that is basically because we humans are a strange race:
We wait until there is a PROBLEM!
Oh yes! We love problems!
It gives us the opportunity to test the moderators patience with variations of curse words and makes us feel better in general. It is what you could call well being with problems.
We thrive on them and love to curse about them, and to show the world how dynamic we can be!
So there it is:
I have no problems with Archlinux :f
I am deprived of all of the above posiblities to express myself. Arch simply reduces me to a common bore. If this goes on I am going to invent some -damit!.

Or maybe I am just Archefied?
I love the simple approach that lets me bloat my system just as much as I like! Everything, and i mean everything, can be installed. I can make my laptop dance a rumba or I could simply just install the stuff I use and leave it at that.
I don't know I must have been using it for over a year now and I am sure I will never find anything that replaces it.

It might be the Unix way of doing things with a few config files. In fact it is much more efficient than any GUI control panel I have used.

Just for good measure I decided to install a control panel from AUR namely Appset-qt.
And there we have arrived at the other forte of Arch that I like: Arch is not evangelizing It just puts everything at your disposal so you can choose.
A pragmatic approach - I just love it.
Image

This control panel almost makes Arch newbie friendly.
But it is not! I will not recommend Arch to beginners. You need some Linux experience to handle /etc/rc.conf and other config files.
But I sure would recommend it to "switchers"! +1
