Microsoft - the 5th biggest contributor to Linux 3

Postby viking60 » 19 Jul 2011, 10:43

ImageYou heard right folks Microsoft is the fifth biggest contributor to the next kernel (3.0).
This may not last, and it’s really only for Microsoft’s own goals, but for now, Microsoft, yes Microsoft, is a leading contributor to Linux. Now, in these days of miracles, let me see if I can get my dogs to stop barking at my neighbors’ cats.

It is hardly love that has motivated Microsoft to contribute this much:
Microsoft you see wants it to be possible for both Linux to run Server 2008 R2 instances and for Windows 2008 R2 to run Linux instances using its own virtualizaton tools. Microsoft has been working on this for some time with Novell, now SUSE.

So Linux is still Communism and Cancer I guess but MS has caught it too. The really encouraging stuff here is that Microsoft is forced to do this in order to stay competitive.
Or in Balmers own words: Become a cancer infested Communist.
They can say what they want about Linux but even they have to dance after the tunes played by the Linux flute.

Not always gracious.... but still dancing.... in a manner of speaking:
:A

Ah I just love it.....
And to be fair, we have to give credit where credit is due.

Oh yes!
They tried it with the kernel before but the code was rejected by Linus. They have done it with Novell/Suse; they are in the extend phase and about to enter the extinguish phase.
The claim that Microsoft has ownership of part of Linux is actually what Novell is paying for. The claim has no substance what so ever and Microsoft is unable to prove it.
But a good old FUD seems to do the trick.
In this case though MS has realized that they are small germs in the server market and need both Novell and Linux and Suse to compete. The kernel simply has to communicate with MS products if MS wants to stay in the market.
IBM or Redhat would have alternatives ready in no time if MS had not acted.

There is only one single thing I want from Windows, and that's it. The ability to pause on boot. Otherwise, they can keep their greedy mits off my kernel, thanks (and knowing they haven't really ticks me off). :f
