Ok somewhat delayed I am going to give it a try today. The board will be offline for a while and maybe look funny

Ahhh - Done! 
I had to do it manually. Makes me remember the code and add manual improvements/tweaks. I have changed the color of stickies so it will be easier to separate them from normal posts (that is no phpbb3.0.9 feature).
I had to remember where the sitelogo is changed (the size will not get adjusted in the admin panel - not for me
).
The board sure looked funny there for a while, but I remembered where to adjust it all so here we are with the shiny new phpBB 3.0.9
